One of the first things that occur on almost any HGTV renovation show is the demolition of the kitchen cabinets with sledgehammers. Along with tearing down the wall between the dining room and the kitchen, cabinets have a slim chance of surviving the camera’s hunger for drama. Hey, I’ve done it (recently, note the picture of my daughter’s ex-kitchen, post sledgehammers) and it’s fun to hack into those oldie/moldies that seem to be glued to the wall. And then the pile of splinters gets thrown into the dumpster or put into garbage and left on the side of the street. Any cabinets removed intact might be picked up by scavengers, but usually not.
This will never happen to a YesterTec kitchen!
That is because all of the kitchens we make are movable! They are designed for a maximum lifespan that can go way beyond the original owner’s use. Our Kitchen Workstation Furniture line (KWF) consists of independent pieces of furniture, built in one or two pieces (plus a countertop) that can easily be removed if the need arises. So owners can take them to a new home, or move them to another location in the same kitchen if an expansion is desired. Or they can be sold and moved if a new piece is required.
But never will you see YesterTec pieces on the curb!
Our very popular mini-kitchens are sometimes purchased for a temporary use, knowing that they will be moved for another use in the future. I know of a couple mini-kitchens that have been sold and transported from state to state and are now functioning flawlessly.
Our Stealth Kitchen Modules (SKM) are just that, Modules. They are designed to fit together and as such can be easily disassembled and moved. In addition, new modules can be added onto a starter mini-kitchen module allowing a phased solution for growing families.
Are you starting to think about the very desirable GREEN practice of using materials and resources that are enduring? One of the best KWF characteristics doesn’t involve moving at all. If you want to change the look of the kitchen, you can just change the look of just one piece. Or bring in another piece, an antique perhaps, or just change the wall color that goes between each piece.
Take a look at the range that we built for a Designer Show house several years ago.
When the show was over, we took it back to our showroom and placed it in a conservatory setting. Then we took it to another local Home Show. Then back to our warehouse.
Now it resides in our newest showroom in Catasauqua, PA!
Another one of our early Kitchen dealers moved a 3 piece kitchen from a Designer Show house, back to his showroom and then finally it was moved to a customer’s kitchen.
Come to think of it, all but two of the kitchen pieces that we have taken to the national KBIS shows were sold and moved immediately to their new homes.
So when we say heirloom quality, we don’t just mean that the quality of the materials and construction will be enduring, we also mean that the versatility of the pieces can last several lifetimes.
Back to the HGTV renovation show: what disturbs me the most after they have demolished the kitchen is that they put back the SAME KIND OF KITCHEN! So many of the open plan kitchens that are shown would be so much better either with KWF or SKM depending on the styling desired. But that is an issue for another time, I just wanted you to know what I’m thinking the next time you witness one of these HGTV shows.
