The best feature about Island Sink workstations is that they are always in the middle of the action in a furnished kitchen. That means people are hanging on to it, leaning on it, conversing over it and oh yes, making messes that can’t be seen from the other side. In other words, it is quite people friendly
The Island Sink (S) and Storage (ST) unit above illustrates how its various colors and materials would be so difficult to achieve with standard cabinets and counter tops. The (S) series can conceal any 24″W dishwasher. With separate workstations, colors and textures can change from piece to piece.
Sink Storage Units (ST) provide extra storage and worktop area for your sink workstation. For island applications, these units become room dividers that effectively hide the sink from view, while those working at the sink can still maintain contact with others in the room beyond. The storage area above the dishwasher can have optional sliding glass doors that can conceal many types of small appliances (12″ high or under) such as coffee makers, toasters, 2 piece blenders, etc. They are also deep enough to enclose 10 1/4″ diameter dinner plates, so that everyday dishes can be stored conveniently near the dishwasher. The work top above the storage area is still within the “reach zone” and can provide extra space for typical food prep and clean-up tasks as well as areas to display plants or your most prized collection. Built-in halogen lights are an option to light the area directly above the sink. Shelves are adjustable and removable to provide a variety of storage options. An available Roll Top unit (ST68R) is the only YT unit that (combined with its corresponding sink base unit S68R), can hide a full sized sink.
Here, a S84-A (Apron Front Sink) and a S84U (Undermount Stainless Sink shown with a custom Trash Compactor) with a ST84U Storage unit above combine to form two freestanding island sink units in this very large kitchen.

Island Sink Bases, (S) units, are available in four lengths and as wall or island units. The dishwasher is completely hidden behind flipper doors. The dishwasher will run only when the doors are completely open. Any Manufacturer’s 2′-0″ wide dishwasher will fit into these units, however, dishwashers with thin, flat control panels are most compatible. The (S2) series can conceal only fully integrated dishwashers. Drawers are extra deep, with full extension slides. The under sink area has many available options that include slide-out garbage and recycling bins and slide-out trays for cleaning supplies. And still there is room for under sink water treatment systems and garbage disposals.
(S-INT) Sink Bases are similar to the (S) units described above except the dishwasher is not concealed by flipper doors. These units (also available in 4 sizes) use fully integrated Dishwashers that have completely concealed controls and the wood door panel attached directly to the dishwasher door. They also have a tray storage compartment next to the dishwasher. These island sink units are useful when the sink needs to be off centered, as opposed to the symmetrical placement as shown in the S2 unit below.
(S2) Sink Bases are similar to the (S-INT) units described above. These freestanding pieces are great to use when the sink needs to be centered in the piece. These units (also available in 4 sizes) use fully integrated dishwashers. The difference is that there is no tray storage compartment and the drawer stack is as wide as the dishwasher door.
