People often ask me what makes our workstations so different than any other cabinetry. And though there are many subtle and not so subtle differences, the one that I mention most often really spins them for a loop. “Twenty Nine Inches” I say. “It’s the Depth of our workstations”!
It seems very simple. But it’s not. Making cabinets that are 29” inch deep (from front to back) is so hard for normal production cabinet makers to do that they simple can’t even consider it. The 24 inch deep dimension has been an industry standard for so long, because 2 base cabinet or 4 top cabinet frames can be cut from a sheet of 4 foot wide sheet goods. The 29 inch dimension completely changes the production sequence as it needs to use 5 foot wide sheet goods.
And yet, what 29 inches does for you is amazing. Let me show you. But first, you need to know why we came up with a 29 inch deep cabinet. We realized early on that to make furniture (see below) that could hide many brands and sizes of ovens, we would need 5 extra inches more (than the standard 24”) to hide the oven’s door and handle protrusions. This range safely conceals a 30 inch wide wall oven below and an over-the-range oven/hood above the cooktop using our UL Listed technology. In addition, we also limited the extra depth to 29 inches so that the finished units could get through a 30 inch wide door.
We also needed to make each workstation that has cooking or cleanup functions to be more efficient since we were eliminating the typical 24” deep continuous countertop. So the extra 5 inches of depth increases the countertop depth to allow for more workspace right where you need it, instead of spread out away from the cooktop or sink.
The 29 inches also allows room for our 12” deep Storage unit to be placed above any sink workstation. This piece (below) has an EXTRA countertop within the reach zone that can be used for food preparation just like the prep stations in commercial kitchens. This can’t work with standard 24 inch deep cabinets.
And these Storage units create opportunities to store dishes, countertop appliances etc. and still leave more space on the main countertop for preparation space. They can even completely conceal these items behind sliding glass doors (below) for a more uncluttered look.
Now let’s keep talking about storage.29 inches means that we can use 27 inch deep under-mounted, soft close, full extension drawers below the countertops instead of the typical 22 inch drawers. This also greatly increases the efficiency of each workstation. And if the workstation has cabinet space above, it is 19” deep instead of the typical 12” deep cabinets!
Our Stealth Kitchen Module line (shown below) also is based on the 29 inch dimension. These built-in units take efficiency to a whole new level, since the modules meld together horizontally and can have extra storage units stacked on top of the 80 inch high modules to whatever height that is required. Full sized kitchens or mini-kitchens (as shown below) are possible and can be combined with 29 inch deep island units designed to complement the full height units.
So, in the image below, now you can better understand how the workstation furniture concept really works. This kitchen safely conceals 3 ovens (there is one in the 29 inch deep island) and a dishwasher to preserve the integrity of REAL furniture. But the 29 inch deep range and sink workstations also have the more efficient countertop and storage space, and that is the key Functional element that makes any full sized YesterTec kitchen work.
And remember, 29 inches is just one of the differences between YesterTec’s Kitchen Workstation Furniture and all other cabinets.
